You are right on point! Business 101: Find a need, then find a way to satisfy it.
Social networking is H-O-T, and people are obsessed with celebrities and ‘cyber voyeurism’. That is why Twitter has been so successful. Soon society will move on to a new obsession.
Well, these days people have short-lived obsessions. That is why there are so many ‘fly by night’ companies. They come in, capitalize on what is ‘hot’ then disappear.
Find the niche and gather exclusive followers. It’s extremely important especially for online businesses. Twitter really nailed it in this regard.
Not only should I find starving crowd, he has to keep feeding them and make them never satisfied:)
Paul I am amazed at your ability to find the starving crowd. I wish I could better identify niches where I might be able to fulfill a need.
The importance of starving crowd is obvious, the problem is..how?
I surf on Facebook day and night to get some sparkles for my social website. I find Facebook pay enormous attention to details to increase usability…detail makes difference.
I would like to know how to identify a niche as well. It seems like it is easy to spot a niche once someone else has, which is too late. I wish I could find the next big thing.
Twitter certainly did turn out to be mega-successful. The people who started it had some amazing insight into what will work. I think Twitter is interesting because of its simplicity. Simple idea that really works.
That is really the best strategy- keeping ahead of trends and then being the first to pounce on it.
A starving crowd can be something that is difficult to find. I couldn’t tell you how many bright ideas I have seen crash and burn all because people didn’t research the business before they put every penny they had in to it. I think that before a person puts all of their hopes and dreams into a business, invention, or idea, they need to spend a considerable time researching every aspect of their possible clientele or buyers.
The guideline stated is pretty solid, but yes we do need a solid product to deliver.
