I hate cold calls as well. I get nervous and avoid them whenever possible. I may try your suggestion.
Sometimes, cold calling is a necessary part of business. I try to dedicate one full morning per week to the task – just to get it out of the way.
I send 3 e-mails per day, selectively.
I don’t want to bother others neither do I want to be bothered, especially by phone.
It is extremely satisfying to check things off a list when they have been completed. I think that goal-oriented people get really motivated by that kind of thing.
I got into the habit of making a checklist after I had a bout with dehydration. My doctor told me that I needed to make sure I was taking in enough fluids and suggested I do exactly what you are suggesting – make a list to check off during the day.
I find the checklist helpful for two reasons:
1. I tend to lose count over the course of a few hours (was that 2 or 3 glasses of water…)
2. I feel good that I made a commitment and have proof (to myself) that I am sticking to it.
I like this idea. I can see how it keeps you motivated, especially if you like to complete things.
Great advice! I too use this method in my professional life. I also found that when cold calling potential customers it is best to go into the conversation with the best positive attitude you can possibly muster up. I know that when I am in a bad or negative mood, I do not connect to the potential customer, therefore ruining my chances for making them a customer.
That is an amazing method i never though of it that way. I too always found it awkward to make those pesky sales calls. for a while we tried text messaging, but that wasn’t effective enough. Vague feed backs mind you, and usually you don’t get a reply.
